The syllabus, welcome letter were very accurate, it made scheduling my week/month/semester actually useful. I used 'how to write analytically' a lot. The feedback form was particularly useful to me, it showed me where I needed to improve.

This course taught me how to budget the time I am given and to plan ahead.

I really liked this class! I liked it so much that I signed up for World Civilization 1 for the fall semester.

I really enjoyed this class. The creativity behind what and how we learned in this class was greater than typical classes. Having a teacher that was very knowledgeable on the content was very beneficial. Being able to express our own opinions on historical reasoning was something that became enjoyable. I would definitely recommend this class and Mr. Madsen for a teacher.

Mark is an excellent teacher who attempts to keep his students engaged and interested in the course material, and incentives doing your research beforehand in order to better present your viewpoints in class.

I value organization it helps me feel confident when I am learning, I did not stress out over finding hidden details, because this course was very organized and easy to follow and know what was expected of me and how to complete the assignment. Thank you for the clarity in this course it made learning enjoyable!

I think the mini argument assignment was a good way to learn how to think in a historian mindset. It helps with getting ready to take upper-level history course.

Professor Madsen constructed a class that was both engaging and challenging in a way that was perfect for the online model in my opinion. From week one to the last I felt like I have become a better historian.

This course has helped me fill gaps in history that I did not understand before. For example, I did not know much between the Middle Passage and the first World War. That area of time always confused me, but by reading the material in this class, I have started to better understand what happened during those two time periods. History has always fascinated me. I have always loved to learn more about what happened before me. I think that this class was one of the best that I have taken about history that was not American History. The instructor for this course is absolutely spectacular. Dr. Madsen created a perfect balance of self-paced work and daily work within this course, even though I missed a few weeks here and there for loss of time. However, through his help and guidance, I was able to complete even the discussions that I had missed. I got in contact with him and told him what happened and why I missed each discussion, and I turned in each missing discussion to him with a slightly reduced grade. This instructor his amazing. I encourage anyone who wants to learn more about Western Civilization more to take this course. If I would have known what this class would have been like, I would have set more time aside to complete the assignments, but my schedule said otherwise. Thank you, Mr. Madsen, for this remarkable course. It has helped me better prepare for the next step of my life as well as help me better understand what has happened in the world and why it operates the way that it does right now. I also believe that instructing the material in this way is better than lecture because it allows the student to go out and read, research, and determine for themselves what has happened in the world around them.
